Summit Metro Parks Fall Hiking Spree is Back

This year marks the 55th annual Summit County Metro Parks Fall Hiking Spree, and with that marks the longest running event of its kind in the U.S.

"We have about 12,000 or more complete the spree each year," Lindsey Smith, Marketing and Public Relations Manager for the Parks system tells our newsroom, making it also the most successful parks hiking event across the U.S. as well.

Smith says the best part about the Hiking Spree for the Metro Parks is the "generational continuity," as she put it, where family members who hiked the trails back in the 60's or 70's are sharing their experiences, even hitting the trails with younger generations.

It's easy to sign up at SummitMetroParks.org and Smith says it's on the honor system, so you can document your own hikes for both bragging rights and even prizes.

The event runs now through November 30th.
