Hopefuls For 35th District Line Up

Statehouse Democrats have the weekend to review resumes and applications from those interested in replacing Greta Johnson as the 35th District's representative covering parts of Summit County. The District includes Barberton and Akron's wards 6, 7, 9 and 10.
 
Johnson stepped down to take a job with the County. 
 
Among the applicants: Summit Council's Tim Crawford of Norton, although he's not in the district. Summit County Magistrate Tavia Galonski, who would have to leave her job with the court under judicial rules and Barberton council members Frederick Maurer and Shannon Conrad-Wokojance.
 
Others include lawyers Adam VanHo, Bradford Carlton and marketing executive Aimee Cooper, Tallmadge teacher Lori Michalec, and Akron city worker Susan Culver. 
 
Interviews will be held in Columbus next week.

Rep. Johnson Joins Shapiro's Office

Ohio State Representative Greta Johnson (D-Akron) announced Thursday that she'll be resigning her office to join Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro's office, effective the end of March. 

The press release states that Johnson will take on the role of Deputy Law Director for Summit County. 

Johnson was elected to the State House in 2014 and took office January 2015. 

In a statement release from Johnson's office, she said of the position, “Ilene has been a mentor to me for many years and I look forward to the opportunity to be a part of her team. I am excited to join in her vision for Summit County and I will bring my skills as an attorney and an advocate for working class people to the executive’s office."

She'll officially start her new role on March 27, 2017.
