This week the 1590 WAKR Coaches Spotlight shines on Officer Howard Vaughn, the head coach of the Buchtel Griffins' baseball team.

Coach Vaughn discussed how he is bringing baseball to the youngsters and helping young people.

"I started in coaching six years ago and I saw a dying Buchtel baseball program, and I wanted to get it back started," he said.

The addition of girls to Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts was controversial when it was announced, and the controversy erupted again when it was announced last week that the Boy Scouting program for middle and high-school aged children would change its name to "Scouts BSA" starting in 2019.

The Great Trail Council, which oversees Boy Scout programs in Greater Akron and Greater Youngstown, will begin accepting girls into the Cub Scout program on June 1. Girls will be allowed into what is now known as the Boy Scouts next year. Scout Executive/CEO Pat Scherer joined The Jasen Sokol Show to talk about how they plan to keep boys and girls separate in the program and discuss whether the council is ready to have girls join the ranks.

The Canton McKinley boys' basketball program has a new head coach.

Andy Vlajkovich, who came over from Warren, will now be taking over the Pups. He spoke with Sam and Brad on Tuesday.

AUDIO: Kenmore To Get a Facelift

Written by
While downtown Akron is getting renovated, other neighborhoods are seeing facelifts of their own. One of those areas seeing the revitalization is Kenmore.

John Buntin, the owner Kenmore Komics and president of the Kenmore Chamber of Commerce, joined the Ray Horner Morning Show to discuss the present and future of the boulevard, from the businesses to the street itself. The city of Akron is investing in the area, and Buntin feels this partnership with the city will be highly beneficial down the road. In fact, Buntin and others are attempting to get a historical listing for the district to take advantage of federal tax dollars.

Buntin says the first priority on the list to improve Kenmore is to repave the street, which will occur sometime in June.
