This week, our 1590 WAKR Female Student Athlete of the Week is Talia Kirksey a junior volleyball player for East and a student at STEM High School.
Talia carries her leadership on an off the volleyball court, as a member of Student Council and a Junior Class Officer, as well as a captain on the volleyball team. She says she likes the team aspect of the game has always been a draw for her.
“No one person can win the game,” Talia says. “We all have to work as one heartbeat.”
Kirksey carries a 4.3 GPA and in addition to her time on the court, she is also a varsity cheerleader and runs track as well.
She says one of her favorite memories as a cheerleader was supporting the football team during their deep playoff run during the 2016 season.
Kirksey says she plans on majoring in Biomedical Engineering upon graduation in 2019, and plans on being a pediatric doctor.
“I enjoy working with kids, Talia explained. “I've had many volunteer opportunities (involving kids).”
One of those ventures is the Fadia Young Women's Program in Akron, which helps inner city youth.
We here at 1590 WAKR wish Talia the best in all of her future endeavors.
