Firefighters from Akron and Cuyahoga Falls were called in to help with the emergency response in the Columbiana community of East Palestine,  where a train derailed on Friday, and area residents had to be evacuated on worries of an explosion, and toxic fumes from a controlled hazardous chemical release.

Both cities sent four firefighters to assist.

Akron Fire Public Information Officer, Lt. Timothy Morrison thanked Lt. Ken Johnson, Lt. Dustin Davis, FF Brooke Cutter, FF Matt Pace, and their families for their support. He also extended appreciation to the crew of four from Cuyahoga Falls Fire; Lt. Scott Christiansen, Kenneth Facemine, Rob Gipson, Aaron Volcansek.

Disruption from the derailment though, is far from over, with Emergency response officials on the scene saying they do not know yet when those who were evacuated will be allowed to return to their homes.

CBS News reported today, in fact, that some residents are saying they're not sure if they ever will return, and a class action lawsuit against the Norfolk & Southern Railroad has already been filed in federal court on behalf of a local couple and a business owner.

In addition, there are concerns about the safety of drinking water, with some residents who have wells on their property, saying that they want it tested, because they've seen dead fish along a nearby creek.
