A new food pantry at Akron Children’s Hospital is hoping to help ease the burden for families facing food insecurity.

Cleveland.com reports that the new food pantry at Akron Children’s, known as the Food Farmacy will help families in need of food, especially those who have a child experiencing chronic health issues.

Akron Children’s Hospital CEO Christopher Gessner says that since the pantry opened three weeks ago, it has already served 79 households and 364 people.

The food pantry program is funded through a grant from the Ohio Department of Medicaid to the Akron-Canton Regional Food Bank. That grant has already allowed for similar pantries to be opened at Summa Health and Cleveland Clinic Akron General.
