Ohio Senate Passes DATA Act in Attempt to Standardize Election Information Featured

Written by

The Republican led Ohio Senate is looking to overhaul how county boards collect and maintain voter data, with the passage of the DATA Act.

As reported by the Capitol Journal, the bill, which seeks to standardize information and improve record-keeping practices, stems from a report commissioned by the America First Policy Institute, a Trump-aligned think tank, that claims there were discrepancies between the number of voters and ballots cast in Ohio counties during the 2020 election. However, reviews of records saw no such discrepancies.

The bill passed despite protests from interested parties and democrats who claim there’s no known proven alternative to ERIC, or the Electronic Registration Information Center, which is the current system in use. And that trying to replace it is like trying to reinvent the wheel.
