Representatives from 60 countries came together last week to talk about the future of the internet, and to declare their commitment to freedom of speech, online safety, and opposition to authoritarian government control, propaganda, and disinformation.

The roundtable discussion and signing of the "Declaration for the Future of the Internet", was conducted by the US State Department largely, but not entirely in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

While many of those participating in the 90 minute video conference talked about Russia's aggression both in the physical world and online; they also discussed the need for an internet that is safe from aggression from other bad actors, like criminals who prey on children, steal money and intellectual property, and bullies who make life difficult for women and minorities.
