Akron police are dealing with their first two homicides of the year - both at bars.
In one case, the alleged killer is in jail. In the other one, a suspect was arrested in Cleveland.
Robert Jarvis, 64, of Lakemore is scheduled to be arraigned Saturday in Akron Municipal Court on a count of murder after a man suffered a fatal beating at a Triplett Avenue bar. It wasn't much of a "who done it" since Jarvis was the DJ at the Zodiac Bar and it happened in front of plenty of witnesses. Police say he turned himself in.
The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office identifies the victim as 43 year-old Forrest Ryan of North Canton.
Police say he was found unresponsive inside the bar and died later in the emergency department.
The other fatality occured at Hi-De-Ho Lounge on Vernon Odom Boulevard. There was some kind of a fight between two men and one of them - now identified as Lentheric Caldwell, 39, of Hart Street in Akron - got shot in the torso. He died a short time later at the hospital.
Police say that 44 year-old Willie Steve Hicks III of Eva Avenue in Akron was arrested at a motel in Willoughby at just before 4 PM on Friday afternoon, saying the U.S. Marshal's Office and the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force caught up with him due to "electronic and human intelligence".
Hicks was returned to Akron after his arrest.
