The legendary voice of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Joe Tait, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 83. In addition to calling Cavs games, he was a television announcer for the Cleveland Indians, as well as broadcasting games for the WNBA’s Cleveland Rockers and Mount Union Purple Raiders.
The Ray Horner Morning Show paid tribute to Joe, a long-time friend of WAKR for nearly five decades.
Tim Alcorn is the current play-by-play announcer for the Cavs, but prior to that, he was mentored by Joe from his early twenties until the day he passed. He talked about his great friendship with Joe, and told an amusing story about being in a limousine.
Terry Pluto has been friends with Joe since 1980, and has gone on many road trips together while covering the Cavs and Indians as Joe called the games.
WAKR promotions VP Joyce Lagios has known Joe for 50 years, and he never forgot her birthday.
