Kenmore High School was around for an entire centrury before closing its doors in 2017. The alma mater of former mayor Don Plusquellic merged with Garfield High School, becoming Kenmore-Garfield High School. But with the opening of the new CLC, the Kenmore name is no more. That has caused a rift in the Kenmore community, which has always been very tight-knit, and Akron Public Schools superintendent David James says he understands their concerns. The board voted in favor of using the name Garfield CLC with the school being built near the site of the old high school.
