Written by

This week our 1590 WAKR Female Student Athlete of the Week is Jess Vari a senior basketball player from Revere High School.

She says basketball is something that runs in her family with her older siblings and father all playing.

“It was just a family thing,” she said

She says that the relationship between her coaches and teammates is is a special one, and getting to know first year coach Dan Brown was a great experience for her as well.

“The first day we met him he had full confidence in us and he was really supportive and engaging,” she said.

Coach Brown said that Vari exhibits leadership both on and off the court.

“Jess meant so much to our team this  season," he said.

“ She was our on-the-court leader, not only vocally, but in the way she conducted herself with outstanding footwork in the post, is a skilled defender and is one of the hardest workers I've ever coached. We're going to miss her."

This year she was a co-captain and was 2nd team all conference during her senior year.

In addition to being a basketball player for Revere, she’s also a member of the National Honor Society and the Athletic Leadership Council among other groups.

Upon graduation in the spring, Jess plans on studying nursing in college.

Our next Student Athlete of the Week is Bradley Garrison a senior lacrosse player from Revere High School.

He got into lacrosse at an early age and he truly enjoys the game and the physicality it brings.

“I always like the agressiveness of it and I like the fast pace," he says.

Garrison is a two-sport athlete in football and lacrosse and is a 3 year letterman in lacrosse.

His coach Patrick Quinn has this to say about his senior.

“Our team motto is strength and honor and Bradley exemplifies these traits on a daily basis,” he said.

He runs straight towards and through the obstacles and challenges in his life and is always looking for opportunities for his teammates, he is a leader and a great lacrosse player.”

In addition to those sports, Bradley is a member of Ski and Snowboard Club.

Upon graduation in the spring, Garrison plans on studying Criminal Justice.

“I enjoy the action and I like police officers and what they do for the community," he explained.

We wish Jess and Bradley the best in all of their future endeavors.
