For our Student Athlete of the Week program, we head to the east side of town and visit Ellet CLC. Rachel Wenzel is a two-sport athlete at Ellet. She excels on the field for both the soccer and basketball teams. As a sophomore, she started every game and received first team All City in both sports. Her biggest game this season was when she dropped 18 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and had six assists. In the future, Rachel would like to play soccer or basketball at the collegiate level while studying business/construction management. Colin Fridley is also a member of the basketball team, and has participated all four years of high school. It was a difficult pandemic-shortened season for all, but Colin made the best of it, and he finished strong. In his final regular season game, he scored 33 points. In the classroom, he is a College Credit Plus student at the University of Akron, and he plans on majoring in fashion and photography, with the hopes of starting his own clothing brand. The Student Athlete of the Week segment is powered by NECA-IBEW and Akron Children’s Hospital.
