It's the first Saturday in May, and that means it's time for the Run for the Roses. 20 horses will go to the post at what is expected to be a rainy Churchill Downs for the 143rd running of the Kentucky Derby. Classic Empire is the favorite at 4-1, but the possibility of a sloppy track has the experts looking for a mudder.

Rich Ruda, track handicapper for JACK Thistledown Racino, and Max Barton, executive director of the Canton Museum of Art and a longtime owner of racehorses, joined Jasen to share their picks and how they'll play the Derby.

The Kentucky Derby will be taking place tomorrow, and many people have their prognostications as to who will take home the win in 2016.

Ed DeRosa from joined the Sam Bourquin Show to talk about the Derby this year and how American Pharoah's Triple Crown has sparked interest in horse racing across the country.

DeRosa says American Pharoah's win was a big boost for the sport.

"It's been good to see the uptick, but let's turn it into a long term win instead of a short term gain," he said.

He says the tracks at the regional level can help with that by providing an entertaining product and making it comfortable for guests.

As far as the Derby itself, Nyquist is the favorite, but Ed says there are other horses that could take it home.

Exaggerator is Ed's top pick to win the Derby, and he likes his odds at 5 to 1.
