This week our 1590 WAKR Student Athlete of the Week is Caleb Eckenrode of Springfield High School.
Our last week of our 2018 Camp Reports continue with new head football coach of the Springfield Spartans David Bosko.
The Spartans open up the 2018 season with neighborhood rival Ellet.
This year's 2018 Male and Female Student Athletes of the Year are Tyler Dawson of Springfield High School and Lexi Shultz of Ellet High School.
This crop of athletes was honored at St. George's Fellowship Centre in Fairlawn during the Student Athlete of the Year Banquet.
Both Tyler and Lexi were humbled and honored to receive the $1,000 scholarships during the annual event.
Dawson plans on studying accounting at the University of Akron.
He says one of his favorite memories as a student athlete was playing with his fellow seniors, most of whom he has played with since he was 12 years old.
“I wouldn't change anything I did,” Dawson explained.
Tyler was a two-sport athlete, playing both football and basketball at Springfield High School.
Lexi Shultz, our second scholarship winner was a two-sport athlete playing both volleyball and softball for Ellet High School.
She says that she learned a lot of lessons throughout her time at Ellet, including those from Coach Chuck Shuman, her softball coach.
“The biggest thing I took from him was even when things get rough, just keep going, keep your head up,” she said.
Shultz plans on studying Exercise Science at the University of Akron and becoming a physical therapist.
Congratulations to both Tyler and Lexi, and also a special thanks goes to our sponsors, NECA, IBEW( International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers), Akron Children's Hospital, Dominion, and St. George's Fellowship Centre.
