Firestone swimmer Molly Chelovitz is the female 1590 WAKR Student Athlete of the Week for December 8th-15th.
Molly is entering her senior season in the pool for the Falcons, and she looks to expand on what she has accomplished earlier in her high school career. As a freshman, she led the team in points, and was named MVP and team captain in her junior year.
The Falcons swim team is off to another good start, and a big reason for that is the amount of upperclassmen on the roster.
"The team bonding is already there,” says Molly. "We support each other fully, and we’ve really been pushing each other this year, and we’ve got really great things ahead of us."
Molly had a stint on the tennis team before giving that up to focus solely on swimming, which is her passion. A Firestone lifer, she has been swimming in the area since the tender age of four.
"I really like Firestone,” Molly says. “I think it’s a great diverse community, and I think that being a part of the swim team is like it’s own little community inside of Firestone, which is great to be a part of."
When she is not in the pool, Molly can be seen with friends or helping others in her community. She has been involved in Buddy Up Tennis, the Special Olympics
After high school, Molly is still undecided on where to go, but she has narrowed her choices down to Georgetown or the University of Michigan. She has toured the halls of Michigan and likes what she sees, and if accepted, she plans on swimming for the Wolverines and will major in either business or law.
