Star Power & Strange Bedfellows: Democrats New Coalition On Display This Week Featured

Written by

It has been a star-studded week at the Democratic National Convention, with appearances from former Democratic Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, along with their wives; former First Lady, Michelle Obama, and former First Lady, Secretary of State, and 2016 Presidential Candidate, Hillary Clinton.

There has been a lot of Hollywood glitz and glamour as well, with appearances from the likes of Veep” star Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Mindy Kaling, John Legend, Stevie Wonder, and Oprah Winfrey.

But while all of those names are impressive; they are certainly not unexpected, given the entertainment world's often left-leaning politics.

What is really standing out this week, is the seeming formation of a new political coalition, which includes members of the Republican Party offering their support for the Democratic Presidential candidate, Vice President, Kamala Harris.

High profile Republicans united in their belief that former Republican President Donald Trump should never again step foot in the Oval Office, include the Republican Mayor of Mesa, Arizona, John Giles, former Illinois Congressman, Adam Kinzinger, former Trump White House Press Secretary, Stephanie Grisham, and Olivia Troye, who was Homeland Security Aide to Trump's former Vice President, Mike Pence.

But is this just a short-lived marriage of convenience?

Could this new coalition, along with the nomination of Minnesota Governor, Tim Walz as Harris' Vice Presidential running mate, possibly put put Ohio back into play for the Democrats after years as solidly "Red" state? More importantly; could it actually tip the scales for Harris in key battleground "swing states" like Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Georgia, North Carolina, Wisconsin, and Nevada?

Find out, as Jeanne Destro, who hosted the Ray Horner Morning Show Thursday morning, talks about it with Malone University Political Science Professor and Political Analyst, Dr. David Beer
