Written by Tony MazurAkron Police are looking for the public's help finding a suspected bank robber.
According to a press release from the police, the suspect walked into the PNC Bank at 1 Cascade Plaza around 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon and handed the teller a note. The note reportedly demanded $8,000 in cash and claimed that the man had a gun.
The suspect (pictured) is described as a black male, between 40 and 45 years old, around 6 feet tall, approximately 190 pounds with a mustache.
Anyone with information is asked to call Akron Police.
A $10 million dollar, low-interest loan the City of Akron made to the Akron Public Schools for their new school administration offices, is also going to help the city settle a long-owed debt to the schools.
Part of the loan will cover payments the city owed the schools, to make up for tax abatements for businesses that set up shop in town.
Ohio Supreme Court Upholds Death Penalty Sentencing
Written by Jeanne DestroThe Ohio Supreme Court has ruled that the state's death penalty sentencing law is constitutional, and has upheld the conviction of Maurice Mason, who raped and murdered a woman in Marion County back in 1993.
The high court ruled that the process Ohio juries go through when deciding whether or not the death penalty is appropriate, is substantially different from death penalty jury procedures in other states where the US Supreme Court found them unconstitutuional.
Akron police investigating a homicide that happened Tuesday night, in the 800 block of East Exchange Street.
The shooting victim has been identified as Akron resident, 46 year old Jason Lamont Bradford.
The Akron woman who died as the result of a fire on Crouse Avenue over the weekend, has been identified as 89 year old Gertrude Stoebermann.
But, the Summit County Medical Examiner's office says they are continuing their investigation into the cause and manner of her death.
The legal age to buy tobacco products in Akron is now 21.
City Council passed a resolution raising the age limit from 18 to 21 last night. The new law also applies to e-cigarettes, vaping oils, and smoking paraphernalia.
The goal of the new legislation is to discourage teen smoking, and to help reduce the city's high rate of infant mortality.
On Monday, Akron City Council announced the age for the sale of tobacco products have been raised from 18 to 21. Originally proposed by Tamiyka Rose, Akron becomes the tenth city in the state of Ohio to become a “Tobacco 21” town.
Akron mayor Dan Horrigan joined the Ray Horner Morning Show to share his thoughts. Though he understands any pushback the city could receive, the mayor feels this is a larger part of the evolution of the culture, and by curbing the use of tobacco, it will help promote a healthier society. Jeff Fusco is a part of city council, and he felt that the lack of availability of the products, based on research, would lessen the amount of teen smoking rates.

It's still not certain whether last night's big storm in our area was a tornado. The National Weather Service is reportedly looking into it today.
The storm damaged a couple of businesses on Manchester Road, flipped a car on its roof, and caused power outages.
It also tore hole in the roof of the Amazon fulfillment center in Twinsburg, where two workers were injured as a result.
