A Fire at Stow's Heritage House Causes Extensive Damage Featured

Written by

A fire early Sunday Morning caused extensive damage to the historical Heritage House in Stow’s Silver Springs Park.

President of Stow Historical Society Bryan Menke tells the Akron Beacon Journal that the second floor of the house is a complete loss, collapsing into the first floor,  and that many documents, books, and artifacts were destroyed.

The Heritage House was originally built in 1849 and was an original stagecoach stop on Graham and Fishcreek roads before being moved to the park and renovated in the 1970s.

Menke says they hope they’ll be able to save the basement and first floor of the structure and rebuild the second floor. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
