This Week in Tech with Jeanne Destro-2-11-22: Weaving Magic

Written by

This week, we're exploring the intersection of art and technology, with Kent State University Artist and Professor, Janice Lessman-Moss.

Moss, who heads the University's Textile Arts Department, has been teaching students how to weave for the past 40 years, and she talked to us about how digital technology has enabled her to take a very basic, ancient art form, and turn it into something much more rich, complex, and expressive.

But that's not all.

She also tells us about how and why the Jaquard Loom, invented in the early 1800's, became one of the predecessors to the moden computer.

Listen now to find out more, and to hear about her upcoming exhibit at the Kent State Museum, showcasing more than 20 years of her works.

"Dancing with the Distance", opens Friday, February 25th, and runs through Sunday, October 2.
