Teen Shot, Hostile Crowd, and Guns in West Akron Featured

Written by

Akron police say they encountered a large, hostile, crowd when they responded to a "shots fired" call near the corner of Orrin Street and South Hawkins Avenue, just South of Copley Road in West Akron, on Sunday night at around 9:00.

Around the same time; an 18 year old man showed up at Cleveland Clinic-Akron General, with gunshot wounds described as "non-life threatening", saying somebody shot him near the intersection of Orrin Street and Nome Avenue.

Later, police say, they arrested 21 year old Demauri Dabney on several charges, but they were unable to fully process the crime scene because of the large crowd. They did, however, say they picked up some spent shell casings, and now they're asking for tips on  on what they're calling a Felonious Assault, though Dabney hasn't been charged with that particular crime.

So far, he is charged with Improper Handling of Firearms in a Motor Vehicle, Obstructing, and Resisting Arrest, and police say he suffered a leg injury while trying to escape arrest.
