Traffic Stop Leads To Alleged Meth Lab In Ravenna Township Featured

What started out as a traffic stop for a broken windshield and only one functioning brake light in Ravenna, turned into something much more serious for 52 year old Michael J. Christians, of Ravenna Township.

Police say after stopping Christians near the intersection of Main and Grant Streets in Ravenna Sunday afternoon; they found what they believed could have been, but later turned out not to be, improvised explosives. In addition, they say one of their K-9 officers sniffed out what they suspected was methamphetamines.

That led to a search of his house Ravenna Township, where police allege they found a modified rifle stolen in Michigan in 2011, Methamphetamine, and numerous “One-Pot” style meth labs. 

Christians is now charged with several felonies, including Possession of Drugs, Having Weapons Under Disability, and Illegal Manufacturing of Methamphetamine.

Ravenna Police say multiple law enforcement agencies assisted them in the investigation, including Portage County Sheriffs, the Akron Police Bomb Squad, the FBI, and the DEA.
