Residents Urged to Avoid Edgewater Beach after Sewage Overflows into Lake Erie Featured

Northeast Ohioans looking for a beach day have been told to stay away from Edgewater Beach in Cleveland after sewage overflowed into the water.

3 News reports that the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District put out the warning after overnight storms caused the sewer system to exceed capacity on Saturday morning resulting in a combination of sewage and stormwater flowing into Lake Erie.

On Sunday a water quality test at Edgewater came back as poor due to potentially harmful bacteria and officials say people should avoid the water as well as wood debris.

Twice a day testing of the water will continue and the advisory will be lifted once samples are below the federal and state advisory standards for bacteria.
