Former State Rep. Bob Young on Trial for Domestic Violence Featured

Written by

Former Republican State Rep. Bob Young of Green was in court yesterday facing charges of domestic violence and assault stemming from a July 7th altercation with his wife.

The Akron Beacon Journal reports that Young’s wife testified in Barberton Municipal Court that Young hit her in the side of the face during an argument at their home saying that the hit made her feel “discombobulated” and that she couldn’t hear out of her ear.

While Young testified that it was actually his wife that hit him and that he might have accidentally brushed her while raising his hands to defend himself. When asked if he intentionally slapped his wife, Young responded, “Absolutely not.”

The trial was wrapped up in a single day with Young opting for a bench trial. The visiting judge in the case is expected to hand down his verdict on Thursday.

Young will face more time in court after being charged with violation of a protection order and menacing in September. Young was forced to resign his position in the statehouse following that second arrest and increased pressure to step down from his fellow republicans.
