An Akron teen was arrested Tuesday night after allegedly assaulting a store clerk and stealing vapes.
Police say it happened just after 8:30pm at the Valley Smoke Shop on Merriman Road, with the 22-year-old clerk saying that two men tried to buy some vape products but wouldn’t show their IDs. The clerk decided to deny the sale because she said they appeared underage. That's when one of the teens jumped the counter and punched her in the face before stealing several vapes and fleeing.
Using a description of the teens and their vehicle police were able to track one of the suspects down and arrested the 16-year-old boy on robbery charges. Police are still looking for the second man involved and ask anyone with information to reach out by calling the Akron Police Department Detective Bureau at 330-375-2490 or 330-375-2Tip. The Akron Municipal Court officially has a new home downtown.
The court, which was formerly located in the aging and no longer adequate Harold K. Stubbs Justice Center on South High Street, is now just a few blocks away in the newly renovated Oliver Ocasek Building located at 172 S. Broadway St.
Judge Jon Oldham oversaw the court's move and speaking of the new space he tells the Akron Beacon Journal that, "There's life in the building,” with Oldham adding that if anyone shows up to the wrong location by accident that it’s only a 4 minute walk.

Akron Police are looking for tips to help them find out who shot at an officer from inside a minivan in Akron's Firestone Park neighborhood late Friday night.
They say it all started at 11:17 PM, when the officer was sitting in a marked cruiser, and heard shots near the intersection of Arlington Street and E. Archwood Avenue. Then a silver Chrysler Pacifica sped past at about 80 miles an hour, and the officer began to pursue it.
However, once he got to the intersection of Reed Avenue and Clement Street, they say the minivan stopped, and somebody inside began shooting at him, before taking off again. Police say the shots continued even after the officer chased after them with lights and siren, but he lost track of them on Kelley Street near Wiley Avenue.
While neither the officer or his cruiser were struck by bullets; they did hit a parked car and at least once residence on Clement Street.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Akron Police.
