The City of Akron is taking the wraps off three new multi-million dollar construction projects aimed at making life better, safer, and a whole lot more fun.
Next weekend, November 16th and 17th, the public is invited to an Open House at the City's brand new, $9.5 million dollar, 15 thousand square foot Fire Station 12, at 112 South Hawkins Avenue, in the Wallhaven neighborhood. It replaces the old Fire Station 12, which has been in service at 1852 West Market Street just a few blocks away, for the past 70 years.
Next, grab a warm coat and hat for the City's big Lock 3 Park grand reopening celebration in downtown Akron, the day after Thanksgiving; Friday, November 29th. It will start immediately after the annual "Welcome Santa" parade.
Visitors can check out the new and improved space, which got a $17 million dollar transformation from just a summer concert area, into a beautiful new year–round facility with a world class performance space, 35 thousand new trees and native plants, an ice rink, and more.
The big event will include a ribbon cutting, live music, ice carving, and instead of fireworks; a live drone show with lights and music starting at 7:00PM.
But that's not all.
Mark your calendars now for 5:00–7:00PM on December 5th, for the ribbon cutting ceremony and celebration at the newly rennovated Ed Davis Community Center at 730 Perkins Park Drive.
The $11 million dollar improvement includes a new gymnasium, indoor walking track, teen room, multi-purpose room, a new playground, and all new design.
