Consumers have been complaining loud and long about how when they try to cancel subscriptions, they either can't do it at all; or they get such a big run-around, that it takes a lot of time, effort, and money to make it happen,
That's why this week's news that the FTC's new "Click to Cancel" rule is in effect, which makes It easier for consumers to end recurring subscriptions and memberships, is such a big deal. Of course, no good deed goes unpunished, and that new rule is now under fire from the cable industry, home security companies, and advertisers, who are suing to block it.
Some other good news for consumers is a new rule banning the sale or purchase of fake online reviews, as well as a new report on the need for stepped up efforts to protect seniors from scams.
