The Student Athletes of the Week are from Barberton High School.
Lillian Wasch is a junior and just finished her second year on the Lady Magics Bowling team. This year she made it all the way to the regional tournament. In 20 games this year, she averaged 152 with a high game of 221. Lilly is an honor student and is enrolled in early college classes through the University of Akron. In her free time, Lilly loves to paint and plans to volunteer at the animal shelter. Upon graduation, Lilly has plans to continue her education to obtain her bachelor’s degree in business.
Mason Valencia is a Senior and has been an outstanding center piece of Barberton High School’s Wrestling Program for the last four years. He is a two-time state qualifier and one-time placer. He was a unanimous selection for team captain and has been an incredible leader on and off the mat. Mason helps out with the middle school and youth teams while also putting in extra workouts after practice hours. He carries a 3.5 GPA. In addition, Mason is currently in the 4 cities compact masonry program where he recently competed in a “hands on” state competition against other bricklayers from Kentucky and Ohio. He placed 2nd. After high school graduation, Mason plans on furthering his academic and athletic success at the college level while majoring in business.
