6 People Rescued from a Porch Collapse in Tallmadge Featured

Written by

Rescued from a hole seven feet deep, that’s what happened yesterday in Tallmadge as firefighters worked to save six people from a porch collapse.

Tallmadge Deputy Fire Chief Benjamin Stasik tells the Akron Beacon Journal that they responded at 12:42 p.m. to a home in the 600 block of Senn Drive when a concrete porch collapsed into a hole. When crews arrived two people had been rescued by nearby civilians but four more remained trapped.

At least 9 fire departments responded to the scene including Tallmadge, Akron, Cuyahoga Falls and the Summit County Operations Unit. After about an hour and half the last person was rescued. Those trapped had some scrapes and bruises but thankfully made it out of the ordeal without serious injury.
