The Ohio Department of criminal investigations is looking into an officer-involved shooting in Akron's Kenmore nieghborhood early this morning, which resulted in the death of a 54 year old man.
Please say that at a little after 1:00 AM Saturday morning two officers observed a stolen car in the parking lot of the Duke and Duchess gas station in the 2000 block of East Avenue, and that one of the officers, a 2 1/2 year veteran of the force; shot a man they describe as asuspect.
Police have not specified exactly what he was doing at the time, and why the officer shot him, but they do say that they found a loaded gun inside the stolen vehicle.
Though police say they immediately applied first aid, including a chest compress; the suspect died. His name had not yet been released.
The officer who shot him is on paid administrative leave while the incident is being investigated both by State law enforcement, and internally, through the Akron Police Department.
