A four-year member of the Akron Police Department was arrested Friday by State law enforcement officers and charged with multiple felony counts related to Pandering Obscenity of a Minor and Illegal Use of a Minor in Nudity-Oriented material.
In a statement released today, Akron Police Chief, Brian Harding, had this reaction to the jailing of officer Geoffrey Parker, "I am sickened to learn of these charges againstone of our employees. I thank the Bureau of Criminal Investigation for handling this caseand trust that the judicial and legal process will reveal the truth. Anyone engaging in this behavior should be held accountable for their actions to the fullest extent possible by law. I’m confident that justice will be served.”
Parker, who was booked into the Summit County Jail after his arrest, has been placed on paid administrative leave, and the Akron Police Department is doing its own internal investigation into the matter, in addition to the separate, criminal investigation now being conducted by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations.
Parker is the second Akron Police officer placed on administrative leave in the past two days. On Saturday, another officer, whose name has not yet been released; shot and killed a suspected car thief at a gas station on East Avenue in Akron's Kenmore neighborhood.
The death of 54 year old Michael Donnell Jones is also being investigated by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations, while the Akron Police Department conducts its own internal investigation into that incident, as well.
